Author Event - Annie de Monchaux
Annie was living in France until the C word hit and now, she’s a writer based in West Australia. Her non-fiction Cray Tales was shortlisted for the WA Premier’s Literary Award and became the basis of a documentary. She’s had short stories published in anthologies and written feature articles for a variety of newspapers. She’s won scholarships to two Rhom Literary Agency retreats in Paris, completed a yearlong Faber Academy, London, course, been mentored by Kristina Olsson, had a manuscript long listed by Queensland Publishable, and been awarded two Arts Council Grants.
After qualifying as a nurse Annie abandoned that option to work in Hollywood - rewriting scripts-Superman II, III amongst others. She’s renovated a restaurant in France, painted murals on three continents, interviewed nannies for the Royal Midwife in London, made TV adverts in Australia. Then motherhood happened and nursing became useful - and rewarding, once more.
Audrey Lamont has happily devoted herself to family life for the best part of 40 years, but lately she’s become aware that she lost herself somewhere between 'I do' and the weekly shop.
Worse, her academic husband Simon has found time for romance – just not with Audrey. Feeling invisible to everyone, even herself, she flees to her aunt’s home in rural France.
While waiting for her sudden absence to spark a change of heart in Simon, Audrey finds solace in the charms of the French countryside and the company of her aged aunt and a cast of eccentric Bretons.
But soon Audrey discovers going AWOL might do more than save her marriage, it might change her life …
